Pitru Paksha 2026: Shraddha, Tarpan, Mahalaya and Ancestor Remembrance

Pitru Paksha is an important period in Hindu tradition dedicated to remembering and honouring our ancestors with gratitude and respect.

In my experience with astrology and traditional spiritual practices since 1994, I have seen many families observe Pitru Paksha with deep emotion and sincerity. Although customs may differ from one family or region to another, the central idea remains the same—remembering those who came before us and expressing gratitude for our family lineage.

During Pitru Paksha, terms such as Shraddha, Tarpan and Mahalaya are often discussed. Each has its own traditional significance. Shraddha is associated with remembrance and respectful offerings, while Tarpan traditionally involves offering water with prayers. Mahalaya also has an important place in the cultural and spiritual observance of this period.

For me, Pitru Paksha should not be understood only as a ritual. It is also a time for reflection, family remembrance and gratitude.

In my detailed article, I have explained:

• Meaning of Pitru Paksha
• Importance of Shraddha and Tarpan
• Relationship between Mahalaya and Pitru Paksha
• Spiritual meaning of ancestor remembrance
